The Story Of The ‘48
It all started when my dad and 15 year old me pulled up to the Ancaster swap meet in his 1940 Ford Truck. We got out and started walking through the parking lot and I spotted a 1948 Chevy truck slammed to the ground. I said “Dad, I want to build one of these”. He laughed and said “Let’s keep an eye out for one”. As we were walking through the swap meet, low and behold; there was a cab of a 1948 Chevy truck from the West staring right at us. It had to be meant to be I thought to myself. All of the money I had saved up working on a farm was just burning a hole in my pocket. So, I bought that rust free cab for $700 and that’s where it all began.
My dad and I worked for the next few months finding the rest of the body parts. And now, it was time to build this thing. First, we built a custom frame with a G-body Monte Carlo front clip and a Ford 8” rear end with a custom 4 link suspension. We then found a donor car where we got the 305 engine and 200R4 transmission.
I would work day and night, whenever I wasn’t at school and finally, a year and a half later the truck was road worthy with a flat black paint job. Just in time for my last few weeks of high school. I drove that truck everywhere, 18 years old – terrorizing the streets of Hamilton.
Years later, it was time for a change. With every cool modern hot rod sporting a Chevy LS power plant I knew it had to happen. The 6.0 litre LS engine worked great, but it just wasn’t insane enough for me. This led me as a pipe welder by trade to fabricate a custom twin turbo set up, which then snow balled into a custom tube back half, a fully adjustable custom 4 link, and a fully built strange 9” Ford rear end. I then fabricated and mounted double adjustable coil overs – to plant that power to the ground!
My passion for building my ’48 led me to opening my own shop building custom chassis, exhaust systems, custom turbo piping, and anything stainless, aluminum, or mild steel.
The love for the car culture has led me to meet all kinds of great people and I hope to one day share the same passion with my son when he is older.
