Well, to start with, I have been deeply into classic cars before they were even classics, building and restoring since my teens.
My Nomad, one of several I own, was aquired 4 years ago when I was actually looking at a 55 Belair. The guy who ended up with the Belair offered the Nomad to me, and well, I couldn”t refuse.
It is an original California car, with a super clean frame and mint body. Well, that first winter, I did a frame off, rebuilding the entire mechanicals on the chassis, all new brakes, steering, suspension, tires, wheels etc. Rebuilt a good small block and 700r4 transmission. ( The original complete 265 is set aside for now.) A complete new American auto wire enhancement, and some creature comforts, vintage heat/air, cruise control, stereo with blue tooth in a console I made.
Buffed the 40 year old paint, some “Mad Mooks” lift gate accessories, new interior insulation, seatbelts and a good cleaning of the factory interior makes for a fine ride. Added a heavy duty hitch to haul the restored period style trailer to car shows. The trailer was painted and accented with Nomad chrome to match the car. They are a big hit together at shows.
I also have a 56 Chev pick up I ressurected from the scrap yard in 1977, which is also of show quality, being featured in some magazines, winning best truck overall at the international centers “Performance World” car show back in the day, as well as several “Top 10’s” at the past “Canats”.
I do pretty much all the work on my vehicles,a passion I have had since my very young days, and I suppose will continue until I am unable to function. My cars are never “done”, as I’m always looking to improve things, even when they don’t need it, maybe more of an obsession.
Anyway, this gearhead will wrenh till my final days, and to all my fellow car “Nuts”, keep the shiny side up, and happy motoring.
