Owned by Doug Renault, ON
Some cars are just special, and for Doug Renault, his 1964 Dodge Polara Convertible has been part of his life for an incredible 60 years. Originally purchased on November 11, 1964, from Roe-Hoyle Motors in Cambridge, ON, this Polara has been through it all—daily driving, family road trips, and a full restoration.
Known as “The Chick-Catcher,” this Dodge started life as a stylish yet practical ride, but after enduring harsh Canadian winters without a garage, it needed some love. Over the years, Doug brought it back to life, completing a full restoration between 2004 and 2005. Now, it’s a stunning summer cruiser that turns heads wherever it goes.
Built to Drive, Built to Last
Under the hood sits a 5.2L OHV V8 (318 Cu. In.), rebuilt in 1992 with a four-barrel carburetor for extra punch. It’s paired with a push-button 3-speed automatic transmission, the last year this feature was available. A Hotchkiss drive with a 2.76:1 rear axle ratio keeps the Polara cruising smoothly, while independent torsion bar front suspension and semi-elliptic leaf springs in the rear provide a comfortable ride.

A Car That’s More Than Just Metal
Doug has driven this Polara thousands of miles, including a 6,000-mile road trip in 2015, proving that classics are meant to be enjoyed. Each spring, he removes the wheels, checks the brakes, and gets it ready for another season on the road.
After six decades, the Polara remains what it was always meant to be—a great driver, a fun ride, and a car full of memories
