Vintage Car of the Month
1983 Mercury Cougar XR7

Posted On June 1, 2022

Owned by Wayne from LaSalle, ON

I bought the car new for my wife to go back and forth to work, however I had it only 3 months and then had head gasket issues with the 3.8 liter engine. This actually happened 3 times with the last time it sat for almost a year.

I am a musician part time and retired from Ford’s and as we were not playing much, so years later I had asked my wife if we could fix the car up and go to car shows… a lot of money and three years later here we are.

After the restoration was completed, first question from my wife was, “What did you do to my car ???” lol.

The car is now caged, tubbed, 4 link suspension, 9 inch Ford, 457 gears, 31 spline axles and 33 x 21 1/2 mickey Thompson tires on the back.  The engine is a 512 cubic inch big block Ford high compression with a big cam called Saturday night special which ran on C-110 until last year….way too much for fuel!!!!

It has a monster sound system, 64 band eq in glove box and all stock interior.

My wife still drives it, but just not as far!
