I’ve always liked to work on cars since my teenage years and having spent my entire career at Chrysler in the parts division, when I retired I wanted to find a collector car. It had to be a Chrysler product and I wanted something unusual. The Prowler fit the bill in spades!
I found it 7 years ago on Auto Trader in Scarborough. It was love at first sight and I had never seen a red one. It’s pretty much original except for horsepower (increased to 300 H.P.), aftermarket stainless grille (didn’t like the original), rear stainless transmission cover, lexan windjammer and various cosmetic interior & exterior items.
With an all aluminum frame and mostly aluminum body it tips the scales @ 3312 lbs. That works out to approx. 11 lbs. per H.P. (not too shabby). That fact coupled with the low centre of gravity (4.5″ clearance) along with 42% weight front and 58% rear and rear drive via big meats (295/40R20 tires) results in an impressive launch. She just squats and goes!
The most unique feature is the exposed “indy type” front suspension and that the front fenders turn with the wheels. I enjoy parking it at shows with the wheels slightly turned and watch the looks on people’s faces. The only other car I’ve ever heard of with this feature is a late 40’s Bughatti (don’t know about the spelling). I call her “The Other Woman”.
